My church, Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, Iowa, has what we call a “Souper Bowl”. It is basically a church wide missions food drive to help restock the food pantries because most are pretty bare after the holidays.

I’m not having one, but I know people who are. Does this apply to having a party in your home as well, or just to hosting one on church property?
Stephen Bateman says
Super bowl party? What’s that? We’re having a Big Game Party.
Haha kidding, it really is a big issue and I think churches tend to play loose with the law too often in general.
Jeremy Davidson says
We always have a big party at our church with a chili cook off, salsa competition, paper football contest and pie/dessert auction. Someone always gets to put a pie in the pastor’s face. We also hold a community blood drive.
It is always a great time and our people love to watch the game.
