Thilo Teschendorf
Thilo Teschendorf is a musician, filmmaker, evangelist, and internet marketer based in Berlin.
I met Thilo a number of years ago whilst curating an art exhibition in the district of Kreutzberg in Berlin, Germany. Thilo is a super friendly guy, and took a lot of time out to show us around the city and make us feel so welcome.
Recently Thilo had been posting some curious videos online which, at first, I didn’t realise were his creation. They were amazingly well produced videos of solo artists and bands performing acoustic songs in various backyards in Berlin.
Backyard Acoustics
Backyard Acoustics is Thilo’s latest project whereby Thilo and his team spend time filming some of the best well known and up & coming artists playing acoustic sets in backyards all around Berlin. I was astounded at the quality of the video and especially the audio considering that it is all recorded live, in one take, outdoors, and no microphones in sight! Seriously genius. I have fallen deeply in love with this project.
Check out a couple of examples of what Backyard Acoustics do below.

The Interview
I thought it would be valuable to chat with Thilo about the project, so I scheduled an interview with him on Skype to hang out and talk about the project (I wish that I could have conducted the interview in-person, any excuse to visit Berlin!)
In this video, Thilo shares some of his background, what Backyard Acoustics is all about, and some really interesting information on the technicalities of producing such high quality music videos.
If this sort of thing interests you then this is a must watch!

If you would like to stay up to date with the Backyard Acoustics project make sure that you subscribe to their YouTube channel, follow them on Twitter, or like them on Facebook!
Also, if you are interested in the audio setup that Thilo mentions in the interview then it is run by a guy called Moritz Tillmann. You can check out his website (in German) or see some photos of his setup on his Facebook page.
