GEEKDAD put together a stellar list of The 5 Best Toys of All Time.
What do you think made the list?
- G.I. Joe?
- Transformers?
- Hot Wheels?
- Train Set?
- LEGOS?
Check it out:
1. Stick
Pro: Finally, something that does grow on trees.
Con: You could put someone’s eye out.
2. Box
Pro: Best celebrity endorsement: Calvin & Hobbes.
Con: Paradox: what do you put Box in when you’re done playing with it?
3. String
Pro: It really ties everything together.
Con: There’s a reason “no strings attached” is a benefit.
4. Cardboard Tube
Pro: Comes free with purchase of toilet paper, paper towels, and wrapping paper.
Con: Doesn’t hold up to enthusiastic play.
5. Dirt
Pro: Cheap as dirt.
Con: Dirty.

Bwahahaha! As the father of a little boy (and having been one myself) I can tell you that this is true!
Word.
Switch out dirt for a sheet and I’m happy with this list. 🙂
My boy would pick paper over dirt, too.
While I never went in for Dirt, I was a big fan of Box, Tube, and String. Stick was more seasonal.
We need to expand the list, I think.
It’s a bit scary how dead on this list actually is. While I was putting up the Christmas lights on the porch yesterday my 5 year old son was outside making a fort with sticks and some cardboard boxes.

I agree! I think bubble wrap would be 6th on the list. My old roommate gave his sister bubble wrap and Power Ranger band aids for Christmas when she was three and she LOVED it! As a boy I would also include dow rods (which are just fancy sticks) and sand (which I guess falls under dirt).
That’s it. We need to create another list!
