I received notice that my new email address in Facebook was now ready to be used. It didn’t appear to give me any options as it related to the actual address itself; looks like it takes your vanity URL and slaps that in there.
Ok. Not too bad. I would have loved to see if I could have changed it up to something like “[email protected]”…
No luck.
I tested out sending myself a message with text, a signature, and an attachment as well. It worked quickly:
The attachment came up in a modal window:
I had taken a screenshot of my desktop.
So far it works as advertised but I will not be using it a lot.
If you’re interested in getting your own email address in Facebook you can follow these steps.
Thoughts? Have you activated it yet? Do you use it exclusively yet?

What happens when my vanity url is “pleasedtomeetyou” and I definitely don’t want that in my email address?
Answer: don’t use it I guess.

Activated yes. Impressed no. Feature-wise it doesn’t touch any of the free emails services. That said, it may win out for being simple. If most of your social life revolves around Facebook, why check your email to be notified of important events when you can login directly to Facebook and save a step? Why do you need an address-book if Facebook already is your address-book, and Rolodex all rolled into one? Take the blue pill and everything will alright!

Still very curious about how this will all end up playing out. I have a feeling it will change the way people use their FB profile. Depending on who they give their FB e-mail address to will definitely alter the content they want these people to see if they happen to want to check out their profile.
