In getting ready for the release of the movie, a ‘Super 8’ app has been released in the iTunes App Store.
It’s a neat little app that allows you to utilize your iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad video capabilities to make films that look like they were made with a Super 8 camera and film.
Like many people, I am excited about the release of the movie, ‘Super 8.’ With Steven Spielberg producing and JJ Abrams directing, this looks to be like a good one. I am excited about the possibility of a movie that largely centers around kids, that adults can also enjoy. Aside from Pixar, movies these days seem to be separated into kids movies and adult movies. There’s no balance between the two for the most part. This is a film that harkens back to the days of Spielberg when he was doing ‘ET’ and producing ‘Poltergeist’ (interestingly, a lot of people think Spielberg directed Poltergeist, but he did not. It was directed by Tobe Hooper of ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ fame.)
I digress.
Be forewarned, this is an app that is tied heavily to the film, so when you’re recording, and then playing back movies, you will see “found footage” clips (they won’t be in any final product you produce) you can extract to apparently splice together a scene from the film.
Still, it is quite cool, as it has several different effects and filters. Hurry. It is free as of now, but that is expected to change.
Here are some screen shots and a quick video I made of my crazy dog:

Get the ‘Super 8‘ app from the Apple App Store while it’s still free!

The frame rate seems way to high in your video of you dog it should be 24 or 16 fps it looks like it is 60! It’s a bummer that they haven’t (yet?) perfected the 8mm look in their app.
