It’s that time again…! Sunday’s a good day to take it easy.
I’ve decided that on Sundays I’m not going to do any blogging except for a very simple post series called “The Sunday Special” where you get to ask me anything.
You can ask about me about web technology, WordPress, blogging, what I ate for breakfast… whatever.
I can’t promise that I’ll answer all of your questions, but feel free to answer each other’s questions as well.
I’ll try to answer all the questions throughout the coming week.
Simple enough, right? Go.

What do you think of Ning networks to form or help your community stay connected? They are easy to set up, and free! I can't think of a problem, unless it is that people might be reluctant to join the Ning community, which would defeat the purpose… Are there any drawbacks?

Do you use any ping services? If so, which ones? Do you use plugins for them?
human3rror says
nope. feedburner does all that for you.

I have two twitter questions. 1) Do you think it is better to link to a blog post or just to the general blog (when you only do one post a day) from twitter?
2) Do you have a post (or would you write one or ask for a guest post) about how to write a twitter message to hook people into your blog post? I don't do much more than the title of the post and that isn't really getting it done.
human3rror says
i think it is a good choice. it's easy to start and can be done well with little training.
the only drawback perhaps is having to pay if you want to get rid of ads and such.

link to blog post is nice so that people don't have to click again. get them to the specific post as easily as possible.
i typically add some type of “comment” to a link beyond the title if I really want to draw attention to it. perhaps something provocative or curious.
Typically the click through rate is about 6-7 percent of your total follower count. that, for some, is on the high side, so don't be discouraged!

lame!

I have a blog where everything is contained in in two boxes, featured post and featured video. It is not a scroll down site. I like the look of the site but I notice that most blogs are a scroll down.
Do they know something I don't? What is the wisest layout for a blog?
human3rror says
David,
your blog is more of a “magazine” style than a regular blog. If you're going for that then it's typically better if you update a lot.
If you're going for a blog, then it should look more like a blog.
even though I update a lot my aim is still to be a blog. i would have to seriously up the posting to even consider a magazine layout.

Thanks for the advise. I'm signed up for your new Word Press theme when it launches. Stoked for that day!

Do you secretly break-dance? If so, please post video.

pity; a video of it would have been quite popular 😛

That is a sad thing. One would think that someone follows you on twitter because they are interested in what you have to say. By reasonable inference – they would be most interested in the links you post to more detailed discussions you have (your blog posts). But nayyy, that is not the case – the potential is there but not always reached except for the luckiest and the most popular.
