In the land of mobile apps and smartphones, the idea of using SMS text messaging seems like stepping back in technology instead of moving forward.
But the truth is, text messaging works!
Maybe it’s because it is such an underused medium and users are more likely to open and read them. None the less, the stats are pretty compelling:
“Ninety-seven percent of marketing texts are read, while the open-rate of marketing emails is typically 10 percent. And 90 percent of texts are read within three minutes.”
Whoa. Pretty impressive.
So how can you effectively use text messaging to communicate with your audience as a church, ministry or nonprofit organization?
Five Simple Steps to a Successful Texting Marketing Campaign
Textify Mobile — an affordable and easy-to-use mobile communication solution for fundraising — has published a helpful white paper.
The five simple steps include:
- Set Goals
- Choose A Provider
- Plan Your Campaign
- Promote Your Campaign
- Evaluate The Campaign
While this was obviously created as a marketing tool to promote their service, the fundementals are really helpful. I encourage anyone interested in getting the most out of any marketing campaign to use these five steps. The medium could be Facebook, YouTube, billboards, or any other digital or analog format. Instead of “Choose A Provider,” you might substitute it with “Choose A Medium.” Should you focus on social media? Printed media? Video? Etc…
Give this white paper a download (and read it!) and apply these fundamentals to text marketing, Facebook marketing, YouTube marketing, or any other kind of marketing campaign your church, ministry or nonprofit is working on.
Have you used text marketing before? Why or why not?
