I recently wrote a post about the importance of short podcasts for churches including some ideas on how you could start producing short-form audio content. I didn’t, however, mention how you could create a short podcast for your church. Enter, Anchor.
What is Anchor?
Anchor is a platform for podcasts. It has mobile apps as well as a web interface. The service lets you record audio, add provided music and sound effects and publish your podcast to a range of podcast listings and services.
How is Anchor different from other podcasts?
The key difference between Anchor and a podcast service like Buzzsprout (who we use for the ChurchMag podcast), are these:
- Anchor is free;
- You can publish to Anchor from your phone;
- Anchor includes royalty free music and sound effects for you to use;
- You can get listener donations via Anchor;
- You can get audio transcriptions from Anchor;
- and more.
I know it almost sounds like there are no downsides but it’s like hosting your videos on YouTube, you get great reach and simple tools (plus free hosting), but you don’t have as much control.
Personally, I think this makes Anchor perfect for short-form podcasts. You may want to spontaneously create one of these episodes on the go and having a podcast studio in your hand thanks to the app really helps.
Are you using Anchor to podcast?
I’d love to know if any of our readers are using Anchor for podcasting and what your experience has been.
