So, you’ve upgraded to Lion now and you’ve got a snazzy new Mail.app to manage all of your email addresses. I must say, Mail in Lion is quite a major improvement over Snow Leopard, and offers a lot of the features users were asking for.
It’s UI is very similar to the iPad Mail app, which many folks swear by. But, what if you’re a heavy Gmail user, like me, and need some of the features that Gmail offers that just aren’t included in Mail?
Enter Sparrow.
Sparrow
Sparrow is like Mail.app made specifically for Gmail.
The UI is very similar, including Lion full-screen support. But, it also includes the ability to enable Gmail keyboard shortcuts, label messages as well as archive them, and a unified inbox for all of your Gmail accounts.
You can even connect with Facebook to import the profile pictures of all of your friends!

What more could you ask for?

I tried sparrow a while ago and it was actually too minimal for me (is that possible on a mac?!). I now use: http://mailplaneapp.com/ basically a glorified way of having multiple ‘native’ gmail accounts in an app. I really like the fact that you can use different themes on the different accounts, so I quickly tell what account I’m in!

That’s funny, I’m the complete opposite. I switched from Mailplane to Sparrow because of Sparrow’s full screen support.

Takes all sorts 😉

I like Mailplane, but I can’t use it while offline 🙁

When using Sparrow, can you see all your messages in a thread without clicking on each message or pressing?
Dave Anthold says
I recently have been using Sparrow as an alternative to the Mail app or even Outlook for Mac that I have been using since it was first released.
Sparrow is simple and has a clean UI. So far, I like the app; however, I wish that it had flyouts so that I didn’t have to double-click the message to open it. Other than that, I am loving the app!
