Today I read something like this:
“How to get people to love your book on social media.”
This isn’t the first time I’ve read these kind of Facebook/Twitter/Google+ messages. This particular example was from a “social media” how-to blog. Don’t get me wrong, if you’ve read ChurchMag for very long, this is certainly something we dive into; however, I feel like there’s some balance that should be struck.
Social Media All the Things?
If you want people to…
- Love your book
- Read your blog
- Visit your church
- Care for your cause
- Value what you have to say
Instead of looking to social media tactics and strategies…
…try this instead:
- Write a book that is adored
- Publish a blog worth reading
- Be a church that’s welcoming
- Share your passion
- Say things that are valuable
It’s much harder this way, but you’ll be left with something that’s worth far more than pop-tart tactics and microwaved success.
Don’t social media all the things. Just be awesome.

This is exactly the premise of Purple Cow by Seth Godin. I would suggest checking it out if you haven’t already.

I have definitely hit a social media fatigue in terms of reading on it. I know that I still have great ideas about it and would love to share with people willing to learn, but to blog on the subject almost comes off as a “lets add to the noise” approach.

Consider writing an ebook for ChurchMag?
