I know that I prefer using a smartphone to take photos over my digital camera. Not only does the onboard camera takes a fine picture, but it’s always ready to go!
Isn’t it convenient? Moreover, with apps like Instagram and others, taking photos has become far more social than ever imagined. I am sure this is something that digital camera makers didn’t see coming.
Can you imagine hearing these words ten years ago?
“Cell phones will eclipse digital cameras.”
Yeah. That’s happening:

How do you think this will effect the high-end camera market without the ability to make decent profits in the general market of digital cameras?

I really REALLY REALLY really wish that someone would integrate a proper camera and a smartphone.
I know samsung created the android camera but it’s slow and clunky and not a phone.
Is this really so difficult to pull off? Maybe newer battery tech will solve this.

Yes the smartphone camera is handy. “The best camera is the one you have with you.” I understand that, and I enjoy having it for spur-of-the moment photo opportunities.
However, it’s so limited. I greatly prefer the DSLR I have for more control, for real (not digital) zoom, and so many other things you can do to get a good quality photo that simply are not available on the smart phone.

Yes, but most people don’t know how to pull that off. In fact, I know some people who use a DSLR, and they’re not as good as photographers using a smartphone. #wahwah

Of course, the natural talent and gained skill in photography make a difference, no matter what tool is in the person’s hand. I’d guess the person taking excellent photos with the smartphone will take even better ones with a full toolbox camera.
Maybe I’m wrong about that.

No, I think you’re right.

the best camera is the one that you have with you. there are pros and cons to all cameras. my personal shooter is a Sony Nex, but that doesnt ever stop me from pulling out my smartphone when i have nothing else.
Ken Rosentrater says
Right. I have been glad several times that I had my smartphone, and do not drag my big DSLR around on a daily basis!
