As a video professional I often get this question: What software should I use to create photo slideshows? I am a Mac user so I often give Apple-based solutions. There are 3 basic pieces of software I recommend and in the video below I share them with you.
- iMovie-In my opinion iMovie does the best job a photo slideshows. It’s very easy to import, organize and create a slideshow very easy. Sharing is very simple too.
Final Cut Pro X– This has more advanced features, but works well with photos, videos, and music. This software picks up where iMovie leaves off and gives you the extra functionality.
Fotomagico-This software is specifically created for slideshows and was created by a photographer. This is my go to software of choice for advanced slideshows for recaps of special days and events at church.
What software have you used for photo slideshows and how has it worked for you? Share in the comments below.

Hey Chip! “I’m a PC, I’m a PC!” Remember that commercial? My software programs of choice are probably the windows equivalent of your Mac workflow. I use Windows Movie Maker, Sony Vegas Pro 12 and Vegas Pro Production Assistant. I really love how efficient Production Assistant is in laying out pictures for slideshows. Vegas Pro has really come a long way and just allows me to go as far as my skills and creativity will take me!!! Did I mention that I have import/export Final Cut functionality? I’m just saying…

Anytime we need a photo slide show, we use iPhoto (also mac people). Just export the slide show as a quicktime and it’s a worship background or a background for a performed song about family or the basis of a walk up video. Simple and the effect looks like it took hours, not minutes.
