I only came across Skitch when Evernote acquired it about a year ago. Evernote I knew, I’d been a fan for years, so anything they thought was worth putting money into, was sure to get my attention.
So I gave Skitch a try and I love it!
It’s easy, intuitive, fast and it does exactly what it promises: it helps you draw attention to whatever it is you want to communicate.
What Skitch Can Do for You
What is Skitch exactly? It’s a free Mac and Android app to capture images and to quickly edit them and share them. Here are a few ways you can use Skitch:
Screen Capture
Skitch is by far the easiest app I know for screen capture. Just click on ‘Snap’ and select the frame you want to capture. Release and it snaps your shot. You can now edit the image, share it to Skitch.com, tweet it, etc.
Web Page Capture
You can’t just capture an image, you can also capture an entire web page by dragging the URL from the browser and dropping it on Skitch. It will automatically capture the entire web page in a second or two.
Edit Images
Skitch is perfect for doing quick drawings on images, like circling a location on a map, making an arrow towards something in the picture, or writing a few words on a photo. I must admit this is even easier to do on an iPad as you can draw with your finger. You can also do some basic cropping and turning. It’s not Photoshop obviously, but the most basic features are covered.
Tweet Images
Any image you store in Skitch you can tweet directly, fast and easy. I do this with weird things I come across on the web for instance, I take a screenshot and instantly tweet it. It’s the same for Facebook. By the way: you can select the privacy setting for each pic, either public or private.
Get Codes
You can get a quick HTML code for each image, or a BBcode to use on web forums. You can also get a link to your Skitch.com image page or a link to just the image without the Skitch layout around it.
Save Images Directly into Evernote
Skitch and Evernote are a perfect combo. You can save anything straight into a notebook of your choice in Evernote. This is one option I use a lot, because I store everything into Evernote. I take screen shots of important web orders for instance and save them into my admin notebook in Evernote.
And of course the best news is that Skitch is absolutely free.
Give it a try, I’d love to hear what you think!
