Server Fault represents crowd-sourcing at it’s finest and I find myself searching it on a weekly basis for answers to my technical questions. It is a companion site in the Stack Exchange network and, in their own words:
Server Fault is a Q&A site for system administrators and IT professionals that’s free.
But is it like the thousands of other technical answer sites thrashing about on the web? No, actually. I really think these guys have tapped into a winning formula.
Notice the asterisk in the diagram, it looks all sorts of ambitious to me. They have developed a system that is derived from the best aspects of these content and new media sources.
Have they pulled it off? You be the judge. The next time you have a challenging technical issue, search the site and if you don’t find what you’re looking for, by all means jump into the fray and post your question.
Matthew Snider says
I think its a great idea, but as with all of those sites, someone will find a way to take advantage of the traffic and grab backlinks etc.
Just like wikipedia which began as something awesome, now is cloudy with data that may or may not be right.
Regardless of the above I do think that it’s a great start to something that is very very useful.
Now if we could set something up like this for the church centric IT and Media Directors we would have a hot commodity.
