SEO is a fickle little mistress that if you let it, will dominate how you blog and ultimately operate a digital ministry. Yet, if you say “content is why I blog,” but ignore it, you may find yourself writing for an audience of one. And while that one may be God, which is great, it doesn’t do much for the Kingdom in an evangelistic and discipleship role. So we must play the game.
With that being said, I have isolated three tips which will be easy to implement for your church or personal blog to get a little more traffic:
- The URL extension is important and Matt Cutts of Google stated that the first 3-5 words are important. If you use WordPress which auto creates your URL extensions from your blog title, you may want to consider editing that for better visibility.
- Titles are great, but when they are not in a h1 tag, utilize keywords, and are more than 55 characters, they are not going to work well with Google. Take time with your titles.
- Visuals are great for user-interactive signals, a newer part of Google’s algorithm which is a bit of a mystery but also helps reduce bounce rates for which people leave your site without staying on it long. Add beautiful and welcoming images.
