The Rails developers are long since familiar with the Prototype and Scriptaculous. They are two JavaScript libraries for DOM manipulation and UI effects respectively and they ship with the Ruby on Rails framework.
Thomas Fuchs is the lead developer behind Scriptaculous, but has been hard at work on the second version: Scripty2.
Scripty2 is a solid, JavaScript alternative to employing Flash-based effects.
It’s a solid competitor to jQuery UI, too. In fact, many of the animations that are capable in Scripty2 are easier to achieve and much more mature than many of the alterantive libraries.

- View Beta 1’s hardware-accelerated animations
I highly recommend checking out Scripty2.
