8-year old Ryan Suffern wrote this letter to Santa, asking help for his fraternal twin Amber. Ryan’s mother began reading the letter, in hopes to do as best as she could to budget for Christmas. Times are tough and they’re not any easier for a single mom.
As she began to read her son’s letter, however, she was shocked and moved by what he wrote:
The letter reads:
Dear Santa,
My mom said to send you a Christmas list. I wanted a remote control car and helicopter but I do not want that anymore. Kids at school are still picking on Amber and it is not fair because she does not do anything to them and it makes me mad. I prayed they would stop, but God is busy and I need your help. Is it against the rules to give up gifts early?
Can you ask Big Time Rush to come to Amber’s birthday party? It will make her so happy. If you do not get them to come that is fine, just get her everything she asked for.
Thanks Santa,
Love Ryan
PS- My mom throws the best birthday parties. You can come if you want.
Well if this isn’t what Christmas is all about, I don’t know what is!
This reminds me of Pedro from Napoleon Dynamite:

Pedro Santa offers his protection.
Bullies are mean, and as Phil Schneider recently pointed out, they’re not disappearing anytime soon. We can, however, do all we can to aid and help those that have become victims — turning victim into advocates.
Listen & Be Present
Ryan’s letter is a little more than just a bit of Christmas inspiration. It’s a reminder to listen. We are bombarded with so much information. From social media to email, our attention is being tugged at constantly, giving each of us a reason to be given the ‘cone of shame’. I think it’s awesome that he wrote a letter to Santa and his mom took the time to read it.
How many times are we given a spare minute, and we use that time to check our email, catch-up on Facebook, send out a tweet, or play a quick game of the latest smartphone app? Instead, we should try and use that time for a quick prayer, a moment to give our kids our full attention, or start some small talk with the other human being waiting in line at the grocery store.
And don’t forget, Santa offers you his protection.
