“You don’t need to go back in time to be awesome; you just have to start right now. Regretting that you didn’t start earlier is a great distraction from moving on your dream today, and the reality is that today is earlier than tomorrow.”
Jon Acuff
We will be reading through Nehemiah 9:5-38
If ever there was a single perfect summation of the near entirety of the Old Testament, it is in this chapter. There is no need to restate the whole text, but the hope, the shame, and the redemption recorded in these passages is amazing. But I believe that in one verse, we have the hearts of the Israelite people and hopefully the hearts of Christians today.
In all that has happened to us, you have remained righteous; you have acted faithfully, while we acted wickedly.
Nehemiah 9:33
The story of the Israelite people is a beautiful one, and summed up so well, it is a powerful story that tells of who God is and what He wants for our future. The future is the story they get to tell.
Have you thought about the story of your church technology ministry? Sure, you probably know of the story for your church as a whole, but moving forward, what story do you want to be told about your church technology ministry? This may be the time to not only find out what your leadership thinks about what your team has been, but even more so, to pray about what it will become. The past is the past, but you can seek, in prayer, guidance for what God has and go to your staff asking for further discussion about what could be and how it fits into their vision.
You make the future happen and when it is God-inspired, amazing things are going to happen. Certainly I don’t predict that what you do will directly lead to the second coming of Jesus, but what if it led to a soul being saved? An eternity-changing decision because of how you led the church technology ministry? That would be incredible.
What we all can agree on is this: actions have consequences, even as you sit in the back of the sanctuary pushing knobs for the sound or during the week as you post a YouTube video. The question is: do you know where your actions are leading you and your ministry?
Use these reflection questions for the comments section.
- Has your team made a binding agreement to God for your ministry? What about you personally?
- How has God blessed your ministry?
- How have you, therein, been a blessing to others within and outside of your church? Take time to share these stories with each other and possibly with church leadership.
