If you are a person that uses email and loves to be organizes in your digital life, you probably come across the terminology “Inbox: Zero.” The idea is that every day, you get your email inbox either miraculous completely empty or every email marked as read, replied to, deleted or categorized for further interaction for the next day. The assumption is that no email is left unaddressed in some fashion.
One of the biggest issues that I have had up to this point is an effectively running email machine. You would think that since my email all is housed within the GMail web application that things are already streamlined and well oiled, but unfortunately they were not.
Before yesterday, I was using all of these accounts, but had them forwarded to my personal GMail account because Apple’s iOS Mail app was frustrating to work with more than one email and this was a simple solution. Unfortunately, this left me with constant unread (and many times unresponded) emails in the original accounts because I had read them in the forwarded email only. It was a hack that was necessary for me to keep up on my emails but most definitely inefficient.
Then I heard about Google updating their iOS GMail app last week. They made some huge strides in the update, including:
- It now supports multiple Google accounts (up to five).
- The app’s search feature now autosuggests keyword phrases.
- You can scroll endlessly through your inbox as opposed to having to click to manually load more messages
- Better Google Calendar integration with invites.
This has allowed me to go from a personal email account full of several other GMail forwarded accounts and three inboxes of unread emails to the much more efficient and effective multiple accounts on my iPhone. It truly does feel good to be organized again!
What one new feature would you like Google to add to their GMail app that they missed?
