Nick Vujicic is a man who has inspired millions of people across the globe. He’s spoke in front of teenagers, business people, royalty, and even Oprah! He is also a new husband and about to be a daddy very soon.
Needless to say, he’s a busy guy. And from his experience of being busy he wanted to talk about being faithful. The question he poses sets the tone for his entire talk:
“What is the point of making your ministry the biggest and greatest the world has ever seen, then looking back and saying, ‘My son didn’t make it into Heaven?'”
You only have one fuel tank. When you’re running on empty, you’re no good to anyone. When your tank is full, who are you going to give it to first? Your ministry or your family?
We need to slow down
“Your son and your daughter needs an excellent father more than they need an excellent college.”
That one quote alone annihilated me. Take a second and think about it. Really think about it.
Sometimes we can get so busy trying to either provide for our families or grow our business or grow our ministry that we don’t realize our families are only getting our scraps. You want to provide for them so you work harder. The harder you work, the less of you your family gets. You feel like if you let up then your family will suffer because the provision will decrease.
Nicks question pierces even deeper,
“How can God show you the depth of his provision if you’re too busy trying to do everything?”
Even if you’re in a season of not being busy, pray for wisdom on finding balance now. Prioritize your family over your work and ministry and do not compromise when that busy season hits. At all cost, don’t burn out and don’t put your wife and kids as your second priority.
One way Nick suggests doing this is by creating a support structure. Have people who are praying for you on a daily basis. Have them pray for your wisdom, discernment, and priorities.
At the end of your life, God’s not going to ask you if you built the biggest ministry or the biggest church– he’s going to ask,
“Did you tell them the Gospel and not add or subtract from it?”
Before talking a little about evangelism (or Preaching Jesus) Nick’s final word on the subject at hand is this:
Be content today in Jesus. Do your best to pour into your family.

I’m a mother struggling with whether to try to work outside the home in order to bring more money into the house. Even though this post focuses on the father, it still spoke to me. Profoundly.
I would like to post these two quotes on Twitter, but I want to credit them appropriately. Would you please clarify who originally said each for me? 🙂
“Your son and your daughter needs an excellent father more than they need an excellent college.”
“Be content today in Jesus. Do your best to pour into your family.”

I’m so glad to hear that this spoke to you Karen! 😀
Both of those quotes are straight from Nick himself.
