About sixteen months ago I wrote a post about PIXIO, a robotic camera mount designed by Move ‘N See.
Two weeks ago, I got an email.
Eric Willemenot, founder and CEO of Move ‘N See, reached out to me in January, offering what many people have been anxious to see: a church service video with the use of a PIXIO. Here’s a 43 minute video of a sermon from Open Heavens Church in Texas:

(Note: The comments the video complained about the quality of the video, an issue I also noticed. Then, I realize that the video was playing on a lower quality—144—than I was used to. A few seconds later and I’d figured this out, set the quality for 480 and all was good.)
I think this offers some convincing proof that PIXIO does what it’s supposed to to do, i.e. it follows the person speaking. The PIXIO also allows for some automatic zooming, assuming your camera compatible.
The PIXIO currently costs around $700, which I know sounds like a lot, but when you’re looking to up your church’s video quality, it’s an equipment investment that may well pay off, especially if you only have one camera and a pastor who likes to strut while he speaks.
Besides, if you think about it, $700 is only about $58 a month, which you might be able to save by skipping staff lunch and cutting back a bit on Sunday donuts. Just a thought.

We are considering using the Pixio model that allows for filming our worship services. The Open Heavens Church has their permanently mounted. Do you know what would be needed for a permanent installation (as opposed to using a tripod in a temporary location)?

You know, I don’t know. I’ve found MoveNSee to be pretty responsive to email.

how did they hook up the audio?
Phil Schneider says
Not sure, but it sounds like a line feed from their sound board into the camera.
