I have a bit of a crush on Pinterest and have been doing what I can to best improve the use of images on the social media site. This means my featured images of blog articles are geared to bring in traffic, they are formatted to be pinned well, and I constantly am including them under our account.
But as with any social media, we can always do better than the basics so that we can get the best traffic out of the website. Thus PIO (kind of like SEO?) was born, which stands for Pinterest Image Optimization.
How can we get the most out of this platform for your blog or website?
The infographic below is a great guide for getting the most out of images on your blog or website so that traffic gets pushed from Pinterest.
Here are a few of the ideas:
- Images should be wider than 300px and cannot be taller than 5,000 px
- Make them visually stunning for click-throughs to your site
- Generic file names can actually hurt traffic. SEO on images in Pinterest is still a must!
- Do not try to simply advertise visually on Pinterest. This will not help the cause.
