OCH Dallas, a Pediatric center, has this sign on their walls.
To me this makes perfect sense but I could understand why some might feel sad about it.

That seems appropriate. Having worked in a doctors office, I know that many patients do not understand that they cannot get access to their doctor whenever they want. It would be very difficult for the doctors if these patients had a means like facebook to contact them after hours. There would also be liability issues about answering requests for medical advice over facebook as such informal consultation may not be covered by the doctors liability insurance.

This makes sense. I was a dean for a summer camp, and one of our policies is that camp counselors do not “friend” campers from churches other than their own. They are to provide counseling and support for one week, then encourage the communication and relationships to flow to the local church. It’s a policy and one I was pretty much a jerk about in the weeks following camp as I reminded counselors of the rules.
So in a pediatric unit where there is the temptation to check in with patients or doctors down the road…leave that to an email or business card…not your everyday ministry (professional or otherwise).

Yea, nobody should be seeking medical advice over Facebook.

Why? It doesn’t have to be intrusive. A simple poke would suffice ;).

I can definitely appreciate this policy. There are a number of professional relationships I’d like to keep at just that.
