Politics, Tech, and Ministry

October 19, 2008
by John Saddington

With the election right around the corner and the fate of the world (as some would see it) resting in the political hands of one of the presidential candidates, "politics" are on the forefront of nearly everyone's mind (and certainly on many people's blogs and twitter). Inevitably (as in pretty much every election) the church and religion play an important role, and choosing sides often means finding those in the evangelical elite that we most align with and following their lead.  ... Eternal Digital Footprints

October 18, 2008
by John Saddington

Every so often I get a really nice "Racoon Report" from my friends over at Seesmic.  The Racoon Report is nothing more than a old school e-newsletter updating seesmic-land with community news, updates, and plugs for various changes to the service, etc. What was in the latest edition was striking though.  Here's the section that got me thinking (especially the part in bold): One of the most powerful things about Seesmic is just how close to real life it is. In our first year we have shared ... Read More

Noomii.com – We is the New Me.

October 18, 2008
by John Saddington

Christian mentorship and accountability is one of the most underused spiritual practices in the modern evangelical church, especially the former.  How could we believe that we could possibly manage our spiritual growth without the coaching, guidance, and support of those that have come before us? Noomii is one such service we could probably take a good look and learn a thing or two. Noomii is all about "pair coaching" as opposed to "life coaching".  As they say: Noomii is website that helps ... Read More

Roov.com – Get Your Roov-On

October 17, 2008
by John Saddington

Roov.com is one of those .com names that is simply cool. It slips off the tongue and makes me think of "groovy" things (It actually is a new term coined by Micah, the founder, to mean shared experience). It's also very simple to type and only uses two-fingers each pushing two keys twice (Yes, that is super geeky, but, you'd be surprised at the studies done to prove that easy to type domain names are more likely to be remembered and visited...). So what's this Roov-thing all about? ROOV is an ... Read More

Friday 5 – Chris Davis

October 17, 2008
by John Saddington

Today's Friday 5 is with Chris Davis, another web-dev-junkie like me.  The first thing that really clued me in was Chris' blog, which I think is awesome.  Check it out. In addition, Chris' photo-posting service Pikter has been building steam and even got it to integrate with Gospelr, which makes it the first web-ap/service-integration... and if I can remember correctly, he did it within 24 hours or so after it hit TechCrunch. The man's got talent.  It's been exciting to get to know him and to ... Read More

Logos’ RefTagger for WordPress

October 16, 2008
by John Saddington

I somehow received an email titled "Bible References for your Blog" from Logos Bible Software yesterday and the first thought was "How the HECK did you get my email address!"  Three minutes later, I was glad that they had it and shot me a note. Logos' RefTagger plugin for WordPress is simply awesome.  That's because of a number of things: It's lightweight.  Only 1 .php file and under 20k. Easy to install.  Most WP plugins are easy to install, but many come with customization requirements to ... Read More

Is Unifyer “Revolutionary”?

October 16, 2008
by John Saddington

Unifyer, the new digital creation by Dallas-based firm Pursuant, has already been documented by a number of people in the blogosphere as well as other editorial reviews. As in any new startup in the evangelical space, there has been some great initial buzz and excitement surrounding Unifyer and the potential it has to change the online landscape in regards to "increasing loyalty", "decentralizing communication", taking online networking to another level.  Some even call it "miracle ... Gabocorp – Web Goes Interactive

October 15, 2008
by John Saddington

Hot on the heels of my post about the first website ever and my thoughts about "hump" day comes another cogitation: Gabocorp. Gabocorp simply raised the bar (if not smashed it altogether) in regards to interactivity on the web.  1997 was the year where people first got a taste of what, at the time, FutureWave Software and their new product FutureSplash, could do.  We now know it as "Flash" (Future + Splash = Flash).  Macromedia was born (and then acquired by Adobe in 2005) and the world wide ... First Website Ever

October 15, 2008
by John Saddington

Wednesdays can often be the most difficult day for me, the "hump" day as it's often times affectionately called.  Trying to get over the hump and into the back stretch of the week. I feel the pressure of both the "left" and the "right" sides of the week caving in on me, like Monday/Tuesday's needs and projects competing with the Thursday/Friday needs and wants. The result is sometimes reflection (only possible after a good few cups of coffee).  And today, I am thankful for the internet, and ... Read More

Google Forms Walkthrough

October 14, 2008
by John Saddington

Every so often I find a web tool that is worth sharing a little more than just information.  The revamped Google Docs toolset, especially the Google Forms, is one of those.  It essentially puts Survey Monkey out of a job in my opinion because it's simply integrated with the other google products, but I do have to put my caveat in here... it's still in BETA (and it really is, reports of "bugginess" have been found). In any case, I like one-stop-shop apps because I'm lazy to go anywhere ... Read More
