This doesn’t surprise me one bit as the Consumer Reports has rated ATT the worst consumer mobile carrier out there.
Over half of the survey respondents who used AT&T as a carrier owned some version of the iPhone, the Apple smart phone that is exclusive to AT&T, at least for now.
Consumer Reports data, reflecting all versions of the phone, found that iPhone owners were much less satisfied with their carrier and rated data service (Web and e-mail) lower than owners of smart phones on other carriers that, like the iPhone, have a host of apps to encourage heavy data use.
Eh. I guess that’s what happens when you have the most popular mobile device, right? Or am I wrong?
Since many of our readers are, indeed, iPhone users, what do you have to say? On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the best) where would you put ATT?

meh – maybe it’s because I am in a smaller market, but I think the service is great. I’ve had every iPhone since they came out. The email problems I have are related to the exchange server at the office, not AT&T… the wiFi issues I have are related to the wiFi spots I am connecting to, not AT&T… maybe people don’t know who to blame for what they are experiencing?

I have an Android (Captivate) on AT&T and I don’t really have any problems. The 3G service is actually more reliable than DSL, but the 3G reliability could be due to the rural area.
Matt Phelps says
…and right after I post that the DSL goes out. Switched over to 3G and everything is good.

I would give it a generous 3. I don’t get reception in my house (or outside my house for that matter)…which is problematic given I don’t have a land line. I drop calls constantly!! I don’t understand why they refuse to improve their network. It’s not like they’re hurting for money…they get $100/month from thousands of iPhone users alone! Take some of that money and put it back into making improvements. I will say this…my iPhone is the ONLY reason I’m still with AT&T! As soon as Verizon gets the iPhone I am jumping ship!
Matt Phelps says
AT&Ts willingness/ability to improve their network often depends on where you are. I lived on the edge of a state park and every time a cell company (AT&T, Verizon, they all had bad coverage) wanted to put up a new tower people would petition for the tower to not go up. One time a company even offered to hide a tower in a fake tree. Never happened.
