We mentioned this briefly on this post about Mozilla’s new Seabird concept but I thought I’d have a more robust conversation here calling out the growth of 3D technology in videos.
What do you think? Has your ministry and/or organization begun even thinking about doing this? What would it take for this to become part of your video production cycle?

I’d consider it if I actually knew anyone that had 3D glasses lying around.
The whole 3D thing (outside of cinemas) is a gimmick right now… nobody has the glasses, nobody wants to wear the glasses, there are too many proprietary versions, and it generally doesn’t add any value to the video.

it does feel gimmicky… right?

I would love to do this just to try it out. Figure out how it is done.
Personally I believe it is novel and that is where it’s usefulness stops.
It might be used to promote a series that talks about loving God in 3D (the way that Mark Batterson talks about reading, meditating and doing – in the book Primal) as an example.
But it requires special paraphernalia – glasses. Heck, I don’t even have those classes (the cyan/red kind)
still it could be cool – for a purpose. But mostly Gymicy.

Cool! For this video you can just “magic eye”. Cross your eyes just enough, and a middle video becomes 3D. No glasses req’d!
But then again….I don’t wanna watch videos cross-eyed for long periods of time 🙂
