This is the fifth article in the series Online Blogging Platforms series.
Draft is our final installment in the Online Blogging Platforms series. I just want to say thanks for those who dropped a comment or suggestion during the course of this little project! Thanks for reading!!
Draft, like Gingko, is just a little bit different than some of the other platforms I’ve reviewed. Draft’s focus is also on good content, but in a different way. It provides a suite of both free and paid editing services to clean up your writing of any unprofessional, distracting content. Since Jeremy doesn’t pay me enough (read: sarcasm) I’ll only mention the free option in the review.
A couple of pros
A Gorgeous Interface- Draft is without a doubt the cleanest of the platforms I’ve reviewed so far. Currently, there’s literally nothing on my screen besides my article and a saved indicator in the bottom left-hand corner. Like Writer, it has text and background formatting options. I’m sporting an off white with dark text and Roboto Thin font currently. This thing is snazzy!
Draft Travels With You- Like other platforms we’ve covered, Draft is portable via mobile web browsers. Everything was accessible and properly formatted on my Nexus 7 which made writing on the go a seamless experience.
Editor Access- Grammar has never been my strong point. It’s very helpful to have a tool available to double check my work. If only I had this in high school!
A Con or Two
While I always appreciated my English Professor’s opinion, I didn’t always like their advice. I find that the free editor strips a lot of my own personality from my writing. I can see this feature being utilized to more effect in more collegiate writings rather than the everyday blog.
Once I realized that, I found myself trying to make my writing something it wasn’t- perfect. I enjoy adding parenthesis where I want, smileys where I want, and sarcasm where I want. My Editor grants me these freedoms, but Draft does not. It got distracting.
All in All
I would say that if you want to use Draft for it’s gorgeous interface and portability, then you’ll be very happy here. Just know that because those grammar editors are there doesn’t mean you have to use them and you’ll be fine. If you are looking for something to correct all your shortcomings in a quick, easy manner, you’ll enjoy Draft as well.
How do you view your blogging? Do you treat it more like an essay for a collegiate paper, or a personal letter to your readers?
