Back in 2014, Gospel music powerhouse vocalist Tasha Cobbs took the world by storm with the release of her project “Grace.” The project (which was an EP) went on to score the singer Dove Awards, Stellar awards, Grammy Awards and an (almost) endless place on the Billboard Gospel Chart. Everyone in the gospel music scene was talking or singing her hit single “Break Every Chain.” Then tragedy struck. She lost her father just days after the Dove Awards.
Fast forward to 2015, the singer has mourned, battled depression, celebrated her success, and is back with a new praise and worship album.
The new album “One Place Live” was recorded live at Redemption Church in Greenville, South Carolina, with hundreds of worshippers present, “One Place Live” is a 16-track album that mirrors Tasha Cobbs musical styling – passionate, spirit-filled and heart-tugging. She brought to the record some artists and together they made this compilation another groundbreaking Gospel album.
Here are five outstanding tunes from the album…
One Place Live
Fill Me Up
“Fill Me Up” is a worship tune that serves as an invitation to God to come dwell in our heart. “You provide the fire, I will provide the sacrifice, you provide the spirit I will open up inside…fill me up God.” The singer recently did a stripped version of the tune with “Break Every Chain” writer Will Reagan and both rendition cuts across both urban gospel and contemporary Christian genres. “Fill Me Up” is one of the pivotal tunes of “One Place Live.”
Check out the stripped version here:
Jesus Saves
I think the title is self-explanatory so the theme is pretty obvious. However, the simplicity of the vocal arrangement is what makes this one stands out; making the tune a singalong and infectious one. Listeners can simply declare over and over the greatest declaration ever “Jesus Saves, Jesus Saves, Jesus Saves, Jesus Saves…” She also did a stripped rendition of the tune with Will Reagan but we will share the original version.
Solid Rock
Solid Rock features the beautiful Jamie Grace. Trust Ms. Grace to bring her guitar as the two perform the guitar laced “Solid Rock.” This is one of the mellowest tunes on the album, and their voices together complement each other. The country-sounding guitar chords fuses with the African-sounding drums making this tune a solid effort. The tune runs for exactly six minutes and forty seconds but by the time it ends it feels like a two minutes song—that’s how good it is.
One Place
One Place the album title track features Pastor Bertha Cobbs (Tasha’s Mom). Both Cobbs sing about being in the presence of God, and the peace, security, joy, hope found in God’s presence. According to the singer the chorus of the song was written Bertha Cobbs over 18 years ago after a dream. There is just something about Mother and Daughter singing with the mass choir that makes this tune so much more.
Put A Praise On It
This is by far the biggest praise tune on the album. It comes with the drums, horns, energy, vibe to match the tune. The tune features Kierra Sheard and will sure get listening dancing.
