Now that’s pretty neat.
Via Sea of Geek:
For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, Check-in a Box is our mobile solution for checking kids into Sunday school.
We just opened a new campus at our church that has to be completely set up and torn down each Sunday. We wanted a solution for our Fellowship One (Our CHMS (Church Management Software) that has a native application used for keeping attendance and managing volunteers) check-in stations that would be easy to set up and tear down while at the same time have a minimal amount of points of failure.
We initially looked at all-in-one desktops with touch screens, but it just didnt’ flow well with the building we were in. Using iPads had intrigued us for some time, but the truth is, as much as I love the iPad, the back side of the set up was too complicated and came with too many points of failure.
Innovative? Sure!

very cool pretty ingenious.

Awesome. We just started with Fellowship One, going live with check ins this week. We had talked about this very solution – with the Dell Duo… We have 4 kiosks that we have been using for 2 years, so if we couldn’t justify all new computers at this point, but as we replace units, we might go to this format…
Wondering, though, if this could be used for Fellowship One self check-in? Requires a bar code scanner and mounting the Duo to something.

Our next step would be to incorporate Bluetooth scanners of some sort. Problem is, so far the ones we look at that would work for size tend to be out of our price range. Eventually we will come up with something, but for right now (the campus we are using check-in a box at doesn’t have enough foot traffic yet) bar code readers aren’t really needed. You also don’t want some one walking off with these bad boys. The Duo’s are awesome!
