[This is week 4 of The Minecraft Devotional]
After playing the game for a while, I was ready for a new start. I had explored this world and gathered so many supplies that I didn’t really have much of a need to go anywhere else. It wasn’t as fun as it was when I first started out. I decided that it was time to start over in a brand new world and begin a new adventure. But first, I had to find the perfect seed.
Every Minecraft world has what is called a “seed.” This is its identity that distinguishes it from all other seeds. Although some seeds may be similar, there will never be two that belong to identical worlds. Each seed has a random assortment of biomes, caves, and villages to explore that set it apart from any other seed available.
After a little research, I found the perfect seed. It would start me off in my favorite biome with a village nearby as well as enough animals to start a small farm. This was going to be fun.
Just as every Minecraft world is different, each of us are different as well. When God created us, He made us each to be different. Can you imagine how boring the world would be if we were all exactly alike? We are similar in that we were all created in His image (Genesis 1:26), but beyond that we are all different. Even sets of identical twins have certain things that make them different from each other.
It’s OK to Be Different
I have met some people who thought that being different was a bad thing. Maybe you recently moved to a new place and you sounded different than everyone else when you talked. Or you dress differently than the others in your class. There is nothing wrong with that. We are unique individual created by God to be exactly how He wanted us to be.
Ephesians 2:10 says, “We are God’s handiwork.” Do you know what that means? It means God made each of us. And if God made us, we can be certain that He made us how He wanted us to be. Don’t be worried about being different than the people around you. Be thankful that you are your own person.
We Need to Be Different
When Paul wrote one of his letters to the church in Corinth, he talked to them about how important it was that they all be different. They all each had different jobs to do and being different is what helped them each be able to do it. 1 Corinthians 12:17 says, “If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling?”
Could you imagine what it would be like if your ears, nose, mouth, eyes, and hands all smelled everything? Or what if they all tasted everything they touched. Gross. When God made us, He knew that we each needed to be different just like each part of our body needs to be different.
The Final Block
Think for just a minute about what the world would be like if everyone was a clone of you. You may think at first that it would be really cool, but if you aren’t a doctor where would you go when you got sick? Or who would build your house? It is okay to be different.
Be thankful that you are.
Questions:
- Make a list of 10 things that make you different from everyone else. Now, say a prayer and thank God for making you unique.
- Read 1 Corinthians 12:14-20 and think about what it would be like if your whole body decided to be an ear or an eye.
- What does it mean to you to be created by God in His image?
