Developed by Microsoft’s FUSE Labs, So.cl is an experimental project that’s centered around web search.
It’s a search engine social network of sorts.
Since it’s an experimental research project, it’s hard to tell what the future holds for So.cl, but the thought of anther social network of any kind seems like a stretch.
Here’s what Microsoft outlines the purpose of So.cl:
- So.cl is for anyone who has something to say – richly, simply, elegantly.
- So.cl helps you create rich stories (posts) by making it easy to assemble and share collages of web content.
- So.cl helps you discover people with like interests, and discover interests shared by people you like.
As much as I want to like So.cl, I don’t see this catching on in a public sense. The truth of the matter is, most people use the web for news and entertainment. I could see So.cl really taking off if we lived in an utopia world springing with learning and knowledge. Truth is, most people would rather play Farmville and watch 8 minute montages of funny cat antics.
I’m curious to see where Microsoft goes with this experiment. If I’ll be applied in education institutions or somehow added as a module into Bing.
Have you tried So.cl?
