Meetings are “toxic”, according to Jason Fried and 37signals (“Rework“) but even he would admit that sometimes you just need to do it.
And sometimes we just need to do it (but no wasting time!).
How are you keeping meeting short, sweet, and highly productive? (We’re still working on the last part…).

Interning for 3 years in the same place, I’ve seen a lot of good meetings turn toxic, but rarely vice versa. I think a lot of places tend to over meet, lose time that could be productive, and then wonder why nothing gets done!
John Saddington says
definitely! stinks!
Stephen Bateman says
How do ya’ll (at 8bit, and readers too) balance work and fun?
Because a lot of times in meetings we’ll start joking or having fun, and each individual break is great, but after a couple of months of it, someone will end up saying: “these meetings are a burden to me, it’s draining me.”
Not an easy balance, to be sure.
John Saddington says
our meetings are typically fun, but we’re also very intentional. and, we only meet really twice a week… and not everyone comes to all of the meetings.
we have one weekly meeting on tuesday nights. that’s it.

i think limiting it has helped.
