MAMP 3 has been released!
MAMP is improved over the previous version and now comes in a Windows flavor, too (coming soon). While the pro version will cost you (reduced price for those with a MAMP 2 license), they are still offering the non-pro version for free.
For those that wonder why you would ever need such an app, here’s why:
If you are doing any kind of web development or web design, it can save you a lot of time and headache by testing your work on your own machine. Web browsers refresh faster, multiple PHP versions can be tried, etc…
Now, here’s MAMP3:
Even though I use a Mac now, I was really excited to see that they will be included a Windows based version that’s coming soon:
I never really liked XXAMP while I was on Windows, so you may want to give MAMP a spin once it’s been released.
MAMP 3 (Free)
The version 3 has a touched-up interface and includes the usual suspects:
- MySQL (phpMyAdmin & Sequel Pro access)
- And MAMPs Webstart
MAMP PRO 3
MAMP PRO has added a new feature called ‘Extras.’ These extras give you the ability to setup a new web development in a matter of a few clicks. Quickly and easily install:
- More will be added in the future
This is basically a cool ‘one-click-install’ kind of system. It’s really slick. 😀
Forget about stopping and starting your servers with different PHP versions. Now you can run different version of PHP side-by-side.
Activate Imagemagick by using the php.ini template — BOOM!
Local Network Access
Here’s how it works:
“Simply click on the Sharing-Button and your email client will be opened with an embedded link to one of your hosts. The receiver of this email can now simply click on the link, taking them directly to the work on your host.”
(I can’t wait to try this.)
Get MAMP off your dock and into your Menubar — if you want.
FINALLY! MAMP will check and update.
MAMP Pro 3 has some other features, too, but I’ll let you read about them on the MAMP website.
