LinkedIn: The New “Who You Know” [Infographic]

I’ve resisted and treated LinkedIn as a necessary evil for a long time. When it began to grow into more of a social network platform, that resistance increased. In hindsight, however, I think I may have been tossing the “baby out with the bathwater.”

LinkedIn has proven to be a great way to network with others, especially in the online space, and has become the new “who you know” of landing a job. Here’s a closer look at the power of LinkedIn referrals:

This can be a great resource for churches and ministries looking to hire, too. So many things in life have evolved because of Internet technology, and landing a job is not immune.

Perhaps I should re-think and re-engage my LinkedIn activity.

How about you?

I interviewed with a company my sophomore year for kicks and giggles. I loved what the company did and they did it well. They offered me a job on the spot, but I wanted to finish college where I was (which was 4 hours away). They said they’d wait until I graduated. Right around graduation, the founder of the company found me on LinkedIn and asked me if I was ready to come to work. Pretty awesome offer. Turned it down, but that’s my LinkedIn story. It was worth my time.
