Back in 2010, you could just about get away with having a webpage with one or no images. Good content and the benefit of faster loading web pages just about balanced out the benefit that visuals brought to the user experience. But in 2018, visuals are essential. Widespread faster internet connections and the prevalence of visual content around the web has adjusted our minimum expectations.
If you are a volunteer or staff member at a church without a graphic designer, you might be left with the task of creating compelling visuals but with little knowledge or experience. While there are some “done for you” graphics you can get online as well as great tools with handy templates to get you on the right track, having the knowledge of what makes a great visual and how to make a specific custom one will make your visual content far more effective.

What is Visual Content Course?
Dustin Stout, a former Youth Pastor, Graphic Designer and now entrepreneur made the Visual Content Course to help bloggers and writer who had excellent content but suffered from poor visual holding them back. The course covers theoretical elements like color theory and layout to practical considerations like where to get royalty free images to adapt and what tools you should use.
The course really helped me learn the different elements that I needed to get started in creating visual content for use on the internet. The information was useful and the layout clear, plus there are practical assignments with feedback from Dustin. This means you know if you’ve got the principles down.
I wouldn’t say there’s anything particularly bad about the course, but there are a couple of items that should be noted.
- If you are knowledgable in the theory of creating visuals, this is probably not for you;
- There aren’t any videos yet, if you find that useful for learning.
Who should buy the Visual Content Course?
If you want to start creating your own visual content or create visuals with little knowledge of any design principles and know you could improve your content, then you should check out this course.
