This is the nineth article in the series The Fight Against Porn series.
This year we are taking a stand against pornography within the church. But the truth is that if we take a stand by ourselves, nothing happens. The real change is with you guys in your churches and ministry. We would love to help set you up for success to not only stand against pornography, but actually fight back. Below is what we see churches doing.
- Make Your Position Clear
This will mean and official stance on this, if it has to be in writing, then do so. Preach about it from the pulpit as a 3, 5, or 7 week series on sex, love, pornography, how Biblical characters screwed up, and what grace from sin looks like. Have small groups, discipleship training, and marriage conferences for prevention and education to your leadership and congregation to join in the fight. No wishy-washy foundations here. We are all in. - Help Your Congregation Succeed
That means you are doing more than just saying it is bad. Pornography is a relational and biological addiction, you need to help them break habits and provide the relational support too. Give them the tools to break the habits with filters, blockers, and accountability software. But do not stop there, go for the full support with celebrate recovery groups, X3Groups.com, and counseling for those that feel they need it. - Switch From Defense To Offense
These things are great for saying that pornography is bad and letting people know where you stand. But fighting means going on the offensive. It means going beyond telling people that agree with you that pornography is bad and begin to share with the community. This is going to require intentionality, grace, and truth communicated to everyone. Have public forums, marriage conferences where a congregation member pays for a couple to come for free, and be firm in your stance. Fighting against pornography will hurt, people will fight back, and you have to be ready for others to not like you. But if it was easy, it wouldn’t be a fight would it?
Honestly, if you are someone that thinks this is wrong, that’s fine and I appreciate it. But this article is calling for warriors for a cause for the Kingdom. If you want to sit on the sidelines, then do so. But don’t pretend like you are on the front lines and then hide when it gets serious. We need our soldiers to stand firm.
If you want to join the fight, leave a comment below letting us know so we can pray for you and your ministry.
