How evironmentally-friendly is your church? As Christians, part of our responsibility is for the care of God’s creation. Yet, many churches are nowhere near being considered ‘green’ in today’s world. But now, a new app promises to turn that around.
Joulebug officially launched at the beginning of October, and still has a ways to go. Android is listed as “coming soon”, and the iOS version is designed for iPhones with an ugly 2x scaling on iPads. Yet despite the ‘beta’ feel of the app, it holds a good deal of promise.
Essentially, Joulebug is a social-networking platform to help people save both money and the planet. It doesn’t get “greener” than that! It works by having various tasks for you to perform, earning you points, pins and badges. Watching a video might earn you a couple of points, whereas switching from traditional light bulbs to CFL or LED will net you even more.
The app is connected to a leaderboard for some friendly-competition. But don’t take it too seriously – much of Joulebug’s point system works on “honors”. Still, it makes for a fun way to learn how to cut down on environmental waste and save some money in the process.
