The Kindle eInk screen really is a beautiful thing. So simple, so crisp, so delightful.
Wouldn’t it be so cool if you could rock your very own images as screensavers? Now you can, and it’s extremely straightforward.
The people over at How-To Geek have put together a full tutorial on how to Jailbreak your Kindle to allow you to add your own screensavers, you could even go comic book style:
At first when I looked at the article I was a little concerned about complexity and legality, however I found this paragraph within the blog post pretty comforting:
Unlike jailbreaking other devices like the iPad and Android devices—which usually includes deep mucking about in the guts of your devices and the potential, however remote, for catastrophic bricking—jailbreaking the Kindle is not only extremely safe but Amazon, by releasing the Kindle sourcecode, has practically approved the process with a wink and a nod.
If this looks like the kind of project that you would like to take on with your Kindle, then check out the full tutorial at How-To Geek.

The Kindle OS is a Linux variant. So under the Linux license they have to release the source code. I don’t think that is done to invite you to mess with code. But on the other hand, it is your device and I think you should be able to use it how you want.
