But Acer has recently confirmed that they will be making a mobile device housing the Windows Phone 7 OS. Here’s what CEO Gianfranco Lanci said about Acer’s strategy in regards to mobile:
We have a very simple strategy. We look at mobile as the biggest opportunity in terms of growth. We introduced a smartphone 18 months ago.
We are working on tablets. What we want to be is a global provider of mobile solutions–smartphone, tablet, netbook, notebook–any kind of mobile, going from content creation to content consumption.
I’ve always thought of Acer as an underdog of sorts and owned one (or two?) of their devices my entire life, more out of curiosity than need (who could pass up one of their netbooks?).
I hope they do much better on the mobile device but at one point I thought they were going Android? Serving two masters…

I once took a $200 Acer desktop and used it as part of a data backup system. It’s been running 24/7 for the last 3 years, and it’s come to the rescue several times.
Acer products are nice (I prefer Gateway, which is owned by Acer), but I’m not sure I’d go with their new phone, or really any Win 7 phone, at least not at this time. It all depends on how the OS and products mature.
