A new Chrome extension will now allow you to block search results and sites that you simply aren’t interested in or feel are bad results.
The issue that a lot of people are already bringing up is that it “could” impact results for legitimate sites since it sends Google this feedback:
If installed, the extension also sends blocked site information to Google, and we will study the resulting feedback and explore using it as a potential ranking signal for our search results.
When you block a site with the extension, you won’t see results from that domain again in your Google search results. You can always revoke a blocked site at the bottom of the search results, so it’s easy to undo blocks.
Is this fair? Is this something that could easily be abused? Creating a script that banned your competitors sites repeatedly isn’t hard to create.
