Last week we covered a utility app for the Mac called, DaisyDisk. What made DaisyDisk so unique, was the fact that it gave you a visual and spatial representation of how disk space is being used on your system. It had several other nice features, too, but the visual representation is what really set it apart.
So, what if you would like to visualize how your disk space is being used if you’re running Windows?

Many, many years ago, I remember saying, “Someday, you wouldn’t install and run programs, you would run all your applications from your web browser. Much to my delight, when Google released their Docs suite, I was very pleased. However, with cloud computing coming-on strong, remote computing is going much further than a few apps running in your browsers.
In fact, here’s something I would never have dreamed of, an entire Linux OS running in a browser:

Some apps have an initial “wow” factor that is fairly short lived. Kind of like the intro sequences in the 16 and 32-bit video game era’s. The cut scenes outpaced the in-game action (except maybe MetalGear).

Often times, apps have that same effect. Initially they appeal to the eye, but fall flat when it comes to functionality. DaisyDisk follows through. For some, seeing only the raw numbers of disk usage may suffice, but I really like how DaisyDisk visualizes the amount of space used spatially and the file type by color. It not only looks great, but gives you a firmer grasp of how your disk space is being used.

I want it.
This is a Macquarium. It is an Apple G3 iMac that has been converted into a 3.5 gallon fish tank. This isn’t a prototype or a mock-up, either. You can order one for yourself, or if you have an old Apple G3 iMac lying around, you can purchase kits, too!

As some of you will know, I am currently trying to work out the perfect scenario for my music and home audio system.
I have decided on the audio front to get setup with a Logitech Squeezebox system. The cool thing about this (and other systems similar!) is that it can play from a variety of sources including your ripped music collection and other bits such as Spotify.
Something that I discovered the other day, through a good friend who is running the system, is VortexBox!
