Microsoft aided in bringing down the largest spam network in the world.
A Microsoft lawsuit, unsealed earlier today, is responsible for causing government raids last Wednesday that lead to the downfall of the world’s biggest spam network, Rustock.
Microsoft’s Digital Crimes Unit used information gained in its 2010 takedown of the Waledac botnet to work with the U.S. Marshals Service in locating and obtaining evidence from five hosting companies in seven U.S. cities.
What the crap!?!
Did I just read this!?!?
“Microsoft’s Digital Crimes Unit”.
Am I the only one that didn’t know this? Do they have badges?
I recently posted about some crazy predictions made about computers and the Internet. Of course, they only seem crazy because they didn’t happen. Here was a quote from Bill Gates back in 2004:
Spam will be a thing of the past in two years’ time.
Although this isn’t true, you have to admit that spam filters have gotten pretty dang good. Sure, spam is still with us, but it’s obvious to see that Bill Gates is passionate about eliminating this soil that stains our email accounts, so much as to create a Digital Crimes Unit.
This is an example for all of us to follow. It’s not about the money, it’s about the mission. It’s not about the fame, it’s about the game.
With that kind of passion, who cares if IE9 sucks?
