Google is getting back to their original search roots and they have unveiled ‘Google Instant.’ Before, you would type in a term and click search. Now, Google starts to product search results as you type. It’s pretty slick.

One of the questions being asked about all of this is:
What effect will it have on SEO?
One person thinks it will make SEO irrelevant:
Here’s what this means: no two people will see the same web. Once a single search would do the trick – and everyone saw the same results. That’s what made search engine optimization work. Now, with this, everyone is going to start tweaking their searches in real-time. The reason this is a game changer is feedback. When you get feedback, you change your behaviors.
Others disagree. There’s a wide variety of opinions so check them out.
Have you tried it out yet? What do you think?

I think it just depends on how you view SEO. If you see it as cramming your page with loads of irrelevant copy, then yes, this is going to hurt you. If you do SEO the right way. By this, I mean filling your site will relevant and appropriate content then I don’t see how this will change anything.
Google is trying to connect the user to the content they are looking for. The better optimized your site is, the more likely that person will be you.

But steam already has that…
I guess google is a bigger scale. The guy in the video makes me so excited about it.

I think for churches this makes a huge positive difference. The reason is that as people search their local community they are more likely to find things local in what used to be broad search terms that you could never rank for otherwise.
For instance…if you have a specific podcast message post in your WordPress blog about dealing with fear, then when someone who has trained “their google” to know that they live in a certain town [your town], then I would think your podcast would have a much better chance to show up in that person’s “dealing with fear” google search than the old unpersonalized google.
Am I right on this? Of course that is probably only if they have web history enabled or they are logged into their google account I would think.
