Social media managers rejoice, your prayers have been answered!
Instagram revealed in a blog post that Account Switching is on it’s way in the form of the version 7.15 update this week for iOS and Android devices this week (currently no word for Windows Phone users). This has been the most requested feature the company has received and for good reason. Until this update, those with multiple accounts (looking at you church social media manager) had to rely on 3rd-party tools (like this) or log out of their current user and then back in. Now you’ll be able to quickly switch between accounts on the fly!
It Works As Good As It Sounds
I received the update on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Monday night and felt a true sense of excitement getting a chance to play with the changes. To get started log in to your Instagram account and tap your profile then go in to the options menu and scroll all the way down to the bottom where you’ll see the new “add account” option.
Log in to your secondary account and you’ll notice the profile button has changed to your profile image instead of the old icon.
To switch between accounts tap your profile then the profile name at the top.
From there you can add additional accounts or fast-switch between the ones you’ve already logged in to. On Android there will be brackets around the account name in your notification window to help you tell which account has a comment/like.
That’s it, you’re good to go!
How long have you been waiting for this update?
What are your thoughts on the execution?
I’m thrilled to start developing an Instagram account for my site now that it’s more convenient to do so. This update will make updating your church Instagram much easier, and maybe Eric will finally launch the ChurchMag Instagram!

This is seriously one of my favorite app updates in the last year. I’m impressed with how they were able to execute it; very streamlined.

This is a pretty interesting sign, I guess Instagram really welcomes companies now. I always wondered if the mobile phone and single account limit was to try and put up a few more barriers for companies. This will certainly help people who run church instagram accounts. I used to have my iPad set up for one account and my phone to another! Not idea really.

That’s my thinking as well. They recently started sponsored ads with multiple images so it makes sense to encourage those businesses to have Instagram accounts as well. It’s huge for me not having to log out and back in.

Well it’s about stinkin’ time!

I know! Right?
