I used to commute to work via the Stockholm tunnelbana (subway in Swedish). The one thing you miss amongst all these colorful designs is the smell. The smell is different than the Paris or New York undergrounds.
It’s a pastiche of industrial oils, electrical equipment, cleaning agents with a slight accent of urine. The designs were an interesting distraction and I thoroughly enjoyed discovering them, but the smells have left the strongest impression on me.
