Inspiration: Architecture by Santiago Calatrava

Here’s some more architectural inspiration!

Check out these great projects by Spain’s Santiago Calatrava.

I’d love to see one of these huge whale-skeleton-looking museums and bridges in person sometime.

Be inspired…

Science Museum section of Valencia’s City of Arts and Sciences, completed in 1998.

L’Umbracle – Landscaped garden section of the City of Arts and Sciences. Check out the people below the bridge for a sense of scale.

Puente del Alamillo, Seville, 1992

Auditorium of Tenerife, completed 2003

Milwaukee Art Museum, 2001

As a person who lived in Milwaukee as the art museum addition was put on it is impressive. I would highly recommend seeing it in person. The structure is right on Lake Michigan and is modeled after as sailing ship. The ‘wings’ that are visible in the photo above actually raise and lower to create a sun shield in the atrium below.

A great architect that uses his wonderful skills to give us beauty in form.
