The youth at my church loved this. We have a no-cell-phones rule on mission trips but I'm thinking we can lighten up on that if we can get them to text stuff like this. ๐
human3rror says
make it an activity… that would be sweet!
Michael says
Not a bad idea! I can just picture friends of our youth getting random texts out of nowhere.
"dnt ogle ur bf’s m8. or ox. or dnkey. myob."
I have to admit, I had to look up what "myob" means!

This is a really great top ten list, No OMGs is my favorite. Anyone can post their own list to our site http://www.toptentopten.com/. The coolest feature is you can let other people vote on the rankings of your list.

Hi there, John Saddington – I'm the original author of the "God Texts" list (McSweeney's 6/3/09). I noticed you linked McSweeney's, but the way you've reposted the piece (your title 'If God Texted…" with byline citing your name immediately following), it might appear to the unwitting, un-tech-savvy visitor that you are crediting yourself as author. A number of church websites/blogs are now citing you as the originator of the piece. Hate to make a fuss, but would you mind making a correction to the byline? Because this list has literally taken off all over the web, I'm having to deal with copyright infringement laws. Thanks so much, John. All best, Jamie Quatro

Jamie,
That is the author link for the blog post, which has nothing to do with the citation. ChurchCrunch is a multi-author blog, and our usage is typical and standard. You are given the “HT” at the end which sports a direct link to your original post. I have seen many links that reference back to your original work as well. I will add some more copy in addition to the text link at the end for clarification.

Jamie, you have always been so rude and condescending to people. This isn’t even funny; it’s blasphemous and tacky.

I’m really surprised and offended also. Why is anyone putting a copyright on the 10 commandments? Yes they are rephrased but honestly, comeon! The main goal is for people to follow them. And the part about “Sunday later”, thats not in the Bible, Bible says only Saturday.
Jamie Quatro says
Many thanks, John, and sorry for the confusion! All best, jq

It honestly would have been nice without all the “threatening law suit” stuff. there's some great material for you to read about attribution, etc, which I fulfilled.
