Apparently the .ly domain is being considered as possibly breaking the Libyan Law!
As a result, I may end up losing some of my .ly domains:
The domain (vb.ly) was seized by the Libyan domain registry for reasons which seemed to be kept obscure until we escalated the issue. We eventually discovered that the domain has been seized because the content of our website, in their opinion, fell outside of Libyan Islamic/Sharia Law.
This is deeply concerning for everyone, but especially .ly domain owners, because it sets a precedent that all websites running on a .ly domain must comply with Libyan Islamic/Sharia Law in order to maintain their domains. This is especially concerning for anyone running a url shortener or hosting user-generated content on a .ly domain.
Wow. That’s pretty rad! Obviously http://bit.ly is going to be in trouble if this is all true.
Government involvement ruins everything.
Read more about the issue here.

Whoa! So does this mean that if bit.ly is shut down… that all those URL’s we shortened won’t work anymore?!

The issue here isn’t that they are breaking the rules. It’s because the non-rulebreakers are being ridiculously successful, so the bullies are using a loophole to take their football home. It’s all about money.
They don’t want all the .ly domains back. Just the ones that will make money.

Well that’s just ug.ly
