I spend a lot of time as you probably do educating others about technology and how to use it. In addition, you probably spend some time helping others understand a new vocabulary as well.
I think one of the greatest things that you can keep in mind as a technologist is to never assume that your audience completely understands some of the technical terms that you’re using. I think context, as well, plays an important role.
Are you creating distance between you and the rest of your organization and staff or are you making the bridge a lot shorter by meeting them where they are?

It's true, educating, especially in the corporate world seems to be a lot of time spent these days. Could you talk more about how you go about educating NP folks and others?

It is hard sometimes. When you mention youtube and most of the people meant to be contributing to/giving feedback on the website you're making don't know what that is, there isn't too much further you can simplify your technology terms.

I just left a comment over at Church Marketing Sucks about how Seth Godin uses the terms "faith" and "religion" differently than those in the church. His terms aren't bad once we recognize that we're talking about something different.
Which reminds me, I've been meaning to do a definitions post on my blog for a while. Perhaps it's time to get down to it.

I'm trying so hard to meet them where they are. One staff member in particular just "doesn't have time right now" every time I try and teach them something. It's very frustrating to see them not want to learn and grow in this area. I don't know what to do when they shut the door on it in their mind before I finish my sentence…
