As a former youth worker that still has a strong connection with the ministry field that ties directly into social media, I am always looking for stats to equip youth workers around the world with how they can best use social media to engage with students. The first question to ask is,
“Are they using it?”
The answer is a resounding yes. The follow up question is, where are they at.
This gets trickier depending upon your demographics, but a general answer is always Facebook.
What should youth workers know about social media?
Here are three tips:
- Teenagers (81%) use social media more than adults (72%).
- Of all the social networks out there, Facebook is by far the most popular network for teenagers at 94% (nearly 3x as much as Twitter, the next most popular)
- As for age, there is very little difference of usage percentage between a 13 year old and a 49 year old.
